Which packaging to use for an export?
Shipping a product abroad requires additional precautions, particularly in the choice of packaging or packaging company that must withstand strong pressures and adapt to the climatic conditions of all countries crossed.

Whatever the type of mailing, you need to ask yourself the following questions:

What kind of product do you send?
What is his country of destination?
What is the means of transport used: truck, boat, plane?
Do not hesitate to inquire with the carrier to know the delivery conditions of your package or your pallet. Thus, you will be able to choose the right shipping packaging and the right protective and cushioning packaging.

Case 1: Sending a single package
If you ship only one package, be aware that it is likely to be placed on a pallet with other packages. It is therefore essential to choose a reinforced packaging so that it supports heavy loads (= the other packages placed above him).

Which type of cashier to choose?
It all depends on the weight of your product:

if it is less than 20 kg, a simple corrugated cardboard is sufficient
if it is less than 40 kg, a double corrugated cardboard is sufficient
if it is up to 70 kg, a triple corrugated cardboard is needed
beyond that, it is necessary to use a wooden crate
The choice can also be made according to the size of the product: an object less than 1.2 m easily enters a standard cardboard box but an object greater than 1.2 m requires the design of a custom cardboard .

What protection and cushioning packaging?
Stuffing packs have two functions: to prevent the product from moving and to protect it from knocks and shocks coming from the outside but also from the inside (for example preventing two products from clashing).

In your package, you can either create a vacuum with air cushions or fill the void with craft paper or polystyrene chips .

How to properly close your package?
Care must be taken to properly close the package with tape. It is recommended to use PVC tape or reinforced tape to prevent unintentional opening.

Depending on the weight of the package, the closure is more or less elaborate:

for a package weighing less than 20 kg, tape on the outside flaps
for a package of less than 40 kg, it is recommended to add tape on the center of the edges of the short sides of the carton
for a package of more than 40 kg, it is recommended to add tape on all edges of the short sides but also on the corners of the carton
You can also choose to strapped your parcel with one or more strips for more security, especially if its weight is high.

Case 2: Sending a pallet
If you ship a pallet full of parcels, you must take our advice for the packaging of each package and apply the following for the implementation of your pallet.

Which type of palette to choose?
The most used pallet is the wooden type of Europe (or "EUR EPAL") because it is versatile and resistant. However, it is heavy to handle and it must imperatively be treated ISPM15 to be exported.

Other solutions exist: molded wooden pallets and cardboard pallets are lighter and do not require treatment for an export.

How to build the palette?
The rules are simple: we place the heavier and larger boxes at the bottom and end with the lightest ones above. You can separate the different floors with cardboard dividers. Then, stretch film is placed around the pallet to secure the pallet and its load.

You can also place a protective cap over the pallet to prevent dust or moisture from getting in, as well as corner protectors to protect them from impact. And you can optionally cover the pallet with an opaque film to hide its contents and avoid theft.

Attention to labeling!
It is very important to properly label your package or pallet as this can have legal consequences . Indeed, in case of damage, you can return against the carrier only if you indicated that the contents of the package or the pallet was fragile via an appropriate label (with mention "Fragile" , "Do not gerber" , etc.). ).

Remember also to clearly indicate the address of the recipient and the identity card of the package: type of product, quantity, etc.

Finally, pay attention to the labeling of certain products where you have to follow specific rules dictated by the EU. This is particularly the case with alcohol, cigarettes, foodstuffs, clothing, etc. And for export to the rest of the world, one tip: find out!

How to optimize the cost of transportation abroad?
The volumetric weight being the main criterion for the tariff of a package or pallet export, it is always interesting to try to pay as little as possible while offering an irreproachable protection to the package or the pallet.

We give you some tips for successful export economics:

choose a shipping container that is similar in size to your product in order to reduce the amount of cushioning material (for example: variable height boxes )
opt for lightweight cushioning materials such as air cushions or polystyrene chips to limit the weight of the package
prefer molded wooden pallets rather than Europe wooden pallets as they are lighter and just as effective
